The Bed', photographs by Martha Treves.

Through the exploration of absence and presence, my images strive to reveal the impact of a body in a space and, perhaps more significantly, the seeming ‘emptiness’ when that figure is lost. I have always taken a greater interest in the human form over specific faces - the lack of identity shifts the focus onto the shape, light and texture of the image rather than a depiction of an individual. The small corner that these images revolve around is stark and confined, I wanted the images to emphasise these boundaries: the figures that fill the space seem restricted within their frames.
